We took a very, very fast trip down to VA to visit the Bluesteens this past weekend. Both families went to the SPA company picnic on Saturday, where the theme was "Rock and Roll". The picnic took place on the grounds of Fort Hunt Park (near Mount Vernon). The boys won the scavenger hunt and we had free Cold Stone ice cream that night!
These few pictures here show you how Shairna's mom, Kathleen, has really started to cultivate and love beekeeping in her own backyard! The boys got to taste fresh local honey and see the wax honeycomb in her kitchen. Outside, we watched a true 'beeline' that began at the hive and went up on a diagonal to the sky above! Very cool!

And for Father's Day Sunday, we took a quick visit to Washington, D.C. We parked at Arlington National Cemetery and walked across this amazingly long bridge (Ollie, too... with the promise that we'd carry him once we got to the other side ;)
Above, Trenton holds up his five dollar bill, noting that in the distance is the Lincoln Memorial.
Below, statues that guard the bridge, gifted to the United States from Italy.

Washington Monument is undergoing repairs. No visit, but nice photo op. Reflecting pool was beautiful.

We bought ice cream from a vendor for $1.60. I was like, "Dang, this is sooo not Central Park!"
Next stop in 90 degree weather? The Zoo, of course!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner with Cathy, Zak, and Nora. Sadly, I did not take any pictures...
All in all, a fabulous weekend!
