Woo hoo! Finally, we can have a Fourth of July party where there is no rain or overcast skies!
It was absolutely gorgeous-- low humidity, some clouds, a bit of a breeze...
We started off at the beach (stupid me forgot the camera-- arugh!) and then made our way back to the house for the BBQ. As this is our third year doing this, we're getting the hang of orchestrating it all.
For all of you who couldn't make it, you missed a good one!
Most of Trenton's friends showed up early for the party-- which turned out to be a good idea. We had every outdoor toy we own situated in the backyard in the shade of our two trees. Above, Trenton and Andrew play basketball. Below, Kendall and Andrew sift sand.
Had to do the water balloons this year... Thanks so much to Jonathan and Jason for spending almost two hours filling them up... The kids smashed through them in less than five minutes...
My mom brought an Elmo pinata, which Mary, Dan, and Mike show off in the picture above. We didn't think about how the little kids would react to hitting Elmo with a bat. Repeatedly. Kendall and Connor wanted to kiss him! We still let them take turns bopping it while dangling from the tree, but in the end, it was one of those string-ones, and they all "pulled" it open for the candy.
Above, a casualty of the windy weather.
Ollie slept for half of the party, but when he awoke, everyone took turns holding him. He loved it!
If you know me well, then you know that you'll have to play SOME kind of game if you come to a party that I'm hosting ;)
This time it was Egg Races.
Four teams of three battled it out to see who could carry the egg on the spoon down around Trenton (and give 'em a high five) and make it back. Cheers to Mina, Sue, Len, and Billy-- the winners!

And why not do more stuff with eggs? This one was the Egg Toss. I could not BELIEVE how far apart we ended up from our partners and how often we'd miss the egg but it would just roll and not break... Mary and Mike held out the longest with this one!
Mom-- a good sport-- with egg everywhere!
