Great morning for a race. Blue sky, a bit humid, and cloud coverage once the sun started peeking out. Bridget and I had decided to train and run this thing a few months ago-- thought for sure it would get us motivated ;) Ha! Well, I did pick it up a bit when it came to taking the kids out in the stroller more often. It is hard, though, to get Trenton to stay in for almost an hour (about the time it takes me to do 3ish miles). I bring new toys (like a Viewmaster and a pinball game), snacks (actually resorted to a Ring Pop this week to get him to stay in!), and let him get out and jog a bit. The trick is to go during Ollie's naptime...
Anyway, the race was well-organized and well-marked. There were about 100 participants. Bridget and I set two goals: 1-Don't come in last place and 2-Finish in under an hour. We jogged most of the first mile (13 min.), did a bit of jogging and mostly walking for the second (15 min.) and did everything in our power to keep the kids occupied and in the strollers for the last mile! All in all, we finished at around 45 minutes. As the only mommas there with strollers, we got a lot of applause when we crossed the finish line!
They also had a race for the kids. Trenton told us he had a headache before-hand, and we tried to hydrate him... But after the race (which he enjoyed running and even got a medal) it was clear we had a sicky boy on our hands... He fell asleep in the car and promptly puked once we got home. Lifesaver Daddy and Trenton spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch together. He had a fever of 104 and was pretty uncomfortable... We gave him ginger ale and crackers and watched the Mets v. Yankees game together... very low key. He seems to be a bit better now (fever broke) but still not himself. Let's hope he gets a good night sleep and that this is just a 24 hour thing... And that Ollie doesn't get it...

Congrats Sheryl! That's awesome that you did a 3K with two kids!
I don't know that I could have finished in 45 minutes without a stroller. Good job!
