Rainy Days, Go Away!

Been outside lately this month? It's a MESS. Rain, clouds, mist, hail... everything! Honestly, it will be fine first thing in the morning, then rain a bit, then stop, then rain some more. Makes you angry to watch the weatherman each morning. Or creative enough to compose haiku about all this precipitation...
Out of the six swim classes T was signed up to take he only ended up attending three. Three! And for one of them Jim sat in the rain and watched. I think they are refunding my money, though.

So I decided it was HIGH time to break out the butterfly kit and preserve some of our indoor sanity by watching something other than the television. Trenton got this neat science project as a gift for his birthday and has since often reminded me that it is hiding on the top shelf in his closet. I had to send away for the caterpillars a few weeks ago. They came in a cute little cup, all set to go with food inside... The directions said to wait for them to crawl to the top and form chrysalises and then to transfer them to the "butterfly pavilion". Within a few days, the butterflies had hatched and were flying around! We fed them a mixture of sugar and water on top of some rose petals.

After an afternoon rain-shower, Jim and Trenton went outside to let them go. Took awhile to get them all to come out... ended up leaving the thing outside overnight. One guy is still in there today.

With rain comes TALL GRASS. Ollie is learning that grass has a neat texture, slides easily between his fingers, can be pulled successfully with one fist, and transfers easily into his mouth. Thanks, Shairna, for this pop-up beach tent. Works well in the backyard, too.
We watched from the patio as the lawn got cut this week. Unfortunately, they will not be cutting again before our Fourth of July party. Please, please, please don't grow too much!

With continuing overcast skies, we still haven't been to the beach... but we've been doing a lot of playdates! This week we met up with Jennifer, Brayden, and Barron. T and Brayden entertained themselves with Play Doh for almost an hour. Oh, and I'm so over the whole "Don't mix the colors!" thing... if it keeps him quiet and happy, who cares, right?

Ollie and Barron are only two months apart... amazing how much they learn and can do in those two months, though. Above, Ollie (still with lunch on his face) leans on Barron for support as he sits up nearby.
But Barron didn't seem to mind!
